PesterCat Minimum System Requirements

PesterCat requires a JDK/JRE version 1.5.0 or greater to be installed on your system. PesterCat is tested using Sun JVM's.

PesterCat can be installed on the following platforms.

Installation instructions for Linux

* PesterCat for Linux requires a compatible version of Firefox or Mozilla to be installed on your machine. If your Linux distribution has a Firefox or Mozilla package available it is recommended that you install it prior to using PesterCat. * It is also recommended that you install the libstdc++ package for the standard C++ library for your distribution before installing PesterCat. Read the more about it on the FAQ.
  1. Download the PesterCat-linux-2_7_0.sh executable installer file to your computer.
  2. From the command prompt run the installer using the following command: 
    	sh PesterCat-linux-2_7_0.sh
  3. Follow the instructions in the installer. Note: If you do not already have a suitable Java Runtime Environment installed the installer will download and install one for you. This runtime environment will be installed in a manner so that it will not conflict with any other Java installations on your machine. The JRE will be installed in the selected PesterCat installation directory.
  4. Run the pestercat shell script located in the PesterCat installation directory to start the application.

Installation instructions for Mac OSX

  1. Download the PesterCat-2_7_0.dmg disk image file to your computer.
  2. Once you have downloaded the .dmg file, double-click it. This should cause the disk image to be automatically mounted.
  3. Once the disk image mounts, open it, and run the automated installer. Follow the instructions in the installer complete the installation.
  4. Eject the disk image.
  5. If you like, you can drag PesterCat to your dock to have it easily accessible at all times.
  6. You can run PesterCat by double-clicking on its icon in the installation directory.

Installation instructions for Windows XP/Windows Vista

  1. Download the PesterCat-windows-2_7_0.exe file to your computer.
  2. Once you have downloaded the .exe file, double-click it. This will start the installation wizard.
  3. Follow the instructions in the installer. Note: If you do not already have a suitable Java Runtime Environment installed the installer will download and install one for you. This runtime environment will be installed in a manner so that it will not conflict with any other Java installations on your machine. The JRE will be installed in the selected PesterCat installation directory.
  4. After you have completed the installation wizard you can double click the PesterCat.exe executable file (or desktop shortcut) to start the application.
  5. If this is the first time you are running PesterCat you may be prompted to unblock port 8181. Unblocking this port will allow PesterCat to run a proxy server which can be used to record web traffic.
